Realistic War games produce game books  with rules that encompass all aspects of the period and ecourage players to use the correct tactics and forces for the mission.
The first book in the series ‘Storming the Reich’ is a new World War II war games rule book set at battalion level encounters, suitable for use with 15mm to 28mm scale miniatures. In clear text with countless diagrams, colour photographs, tables and flow charts, that explain how to play, and get that elusive thing the right feel, and will encourage players to use the correct tactics and troop types to get the mission done.
Reconnaissance troops now have an important part to play, as observation and the chances of success depend on the type of unit / vehicle trying to observe. A dedicated reconnaissance unit, has the best chance, an enclosed armoured fighting vehicle the poorest. So tanks are no longer the all seeing beasts of War.
Infantry small arms weapons are no longer grouped into one factor. Training and weaponry now do make a difference in a fire fight. For example automatic weapons are devastating at close range, but useless at long range.
Friendly fire casualties can now be received from off table indirect artillery fire and aircraft attack, if called in to close to your own troops. Buildings collapse after sustained fire from high explosive and may even catch fire. Tanks can do overrun attacks on infantry.
Rules for competitive games with points costing for vehicles and units, Including a random terrain generator.  Sections covering secret movement ‘the fog of war’.
National characteristics, extensive weapons and vehicle profiles, unit organisations for the American, British, German and Russian Armies are included and MUCH MORE !
‘Storming the Reich’ will be the first of a number of publications, that will feature the same game system, there are a number of supplementary rules sets in the pipeline the first of which will be ‘Blood on the Rising Sun’ which will cover the featuring the Pacific. Burma, Malaya ,South East Asia and Manchuria theatre of operations.
The new supplement entitled ‘blood on the rising sun’ is not a new set of rules it is designed to be used in conjunction with the main rules. The extreme differences in terrain from the barren island atolls in the Pacific to the dense jungle of New Guinea and parts of Burma, dictated a more in depth terrain generator, which covers all relevant theatres of operation.
There is also a section which deals with the unit organisations, and includes the vehicle and weapon profiles relevant to each army. Also extensive sections on beach landings, with bunker and trap details. Also included is a in-depth section on national characteristics which cover the changing morale, weaponry and tactics throughout the entire war, for all combatants involved.
These idea’s together with other new sections contained in the supplement book are designed to give this neglected part of World War II the attention it deserves, and in the process catches that special elusive different feel.
